Our Faith

We are a diverse Christian faith community that is part of the global United Methodist Church.  We believe in the one true God, who is creator, sovereign and preserver of all things visible and invisible.  We believe in salvation through Jesus Christ.

The foundation of Christian living is faith in Jesus Christ.  Faith is the central loyalty that gives purpose and direction to our lives.   This faith is open to everyone who chooses it.

That’s right, faith is a choice.  A choice to seek out and believe in God and what he offers.  We know that faith does not happen overnight.   It’s a journey which can start at any age.   The journey can be complex and may be different for each traveler.

There maybe times where we seem stalled or question our journey.  But little by little, as we progress on our journey, we find that faith is also an incredible gift.  The gift of God’s love, compassion, support, and all that he created for us.

Our church is an extension of Christ’s life and ministry in the world today.  We believe that the Bible is God’s word and is the primary source to guide our faith and practice.

If you have a question about faith or would like to talk with someone from our church, please fill out this Contact Form.  You can learn more about what we believe by clicking on this link to the United Methodist Church website:  What We Believe.

Our Mission

The mission of our church is to be a welcoming faith community that offers God’s love and teachings to all people.  We help people to learn about God’s message of love, hope, and salvation.  We strive to demonstrate our faith by being the evidence of Christ’s presence here on earth.

No matter who you are or where you are on life’s journey, you are welcome at the Gardner Chestnut Street United Methodist Church.

The United Methodist Church

As stated above, we are part of the United Methodist Church.  The origins of the Methodist faith date back to the early 1700’s and to the teachings of John Wesley.   Wesley was an English cleric and theologian who founded Methodism.

Today, the United Methodist Church is a global church that has over 12 million members in over 125 countries.  We are one of the largest Protestant denominational faiths.
