Message From The Pastor 3-20-2020
My prayer is that you and your loved ones are safe and well. A few days ago, I informed you that the Chestnut Street UMC would stay open for worship service on Sunday, March 22. But the escalation and spread of the Coronavirus (Covid-19) has prompted me and our church Leadership to reconsider this decision. Our primary focus is to protect the people of God, especially the most vulnerable.
Effective immediately today March 20, 2020, the Chestnut Street UMC is closed until further notice. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you and your families.
CSUMC Thrift’s Shop/Food Pantry: Also, we have decided to close our Thrift Shop and Food Pantry until further notice. We appreciate your support and presence.
Small Groups: Our Bible Study Group will be meeting online. Please check our website (gardnerumc.org) for details and plan to join us on March 25 at 6:30 pm.
Outside groups: Several outside groups who are using God’s, and people’s space at CSUMC will independently make their own decisions on their gatherings. The Leadership Team members will contact these groups to inform them of our decision to close the church until further notice.
Daily Devotions: Pastor Sela and members of the Leadership Team will conduct daily morning devotions. Beginning at 7 am (10 minutes max) and one at 7:30 pm on Monday 23, 2020. I invite you to join us in prayer and sharing the Word and a short devotion. It would be a great time to receive the Good News early in the morning and again dine on it before bedtime. What kind of Good News Pastor Sela? “Come and see!.”
The Leadership Team will continue to watch for additional medical alerts and declarations from the Federal, State, and Local officials. We will post appropriate alerts and announcements on our church website: https:\\gardnerumc.org and on our Facebook page. If you would like to be on our email list, kindly send us an email by using our church email at the bottom of this letter.
CSUMC will use email and our church website to share news and communications from the following:
- New England Conference UMC, District Superintendent, Rev. Megan Stowe, Pastor Sela Rousseau, CSUMC Leadership Team/Church Council, Federal, State, local government, and the Medical Community.
We will send emails and post weekly updates on our website with worship bulletins, news, and others. We encourage you to check our website, post questions, suggestions, prayers, scriptures, faith stories, and inspirational quotes, and devotions.
I appreciate your faithfulness, wisdom, cooperation, and prayers. Let us remain prayerful, hopeful, and trust God, our medical experts, and our collaboration. By doing so, we will get through this challenge.
With a heart of gratitude and love, I thank God for each of you and our Leadership Team for always being the evidence of God’s presence in the world.
“Be prayerful, be wise, be compassionate, and be still.”
Despite this time of gloom and anxiety, I know that we still enjoy the presence of a loving and healing God. I invite you to join me in reaffirming God’s protection.
Enjoy! I am praying for God’s grace, peace, and healing for you and your loved ones.
Pastor Sela Rousseau
